The thing that hit me first, in the beginning of this epidemic, is how fast all of us fell in line. How fast we adapted. Before I knew it, all of us put our masks on. Our hands may have been clenched in our pockets, but we did it. If we were fortunate, we were able to work at home, and we did so without complaining. We started to wash our hands an almost absurd number of times a day. We stopped hugging our friends. We stayed away from strangers. We started to social distance as if we’ve done nothing else our entire lives. Our smiles, behind our masks, went unanswered. Faster than fast, we became the future we didn’t think could or would happen, at least not in our lifetime. All in order to stay healthy, to stay alive, to protect ourselves and our families. What has this done to us? Who, or what, have we become?
Well, so much has happened in fashion since and it’s no longer a style-crime showing up to galas wearing a t-shirt under a glamorous jacket. We are actually seeing more and more PRINTED t-shirts enter the salons of finer events – and we gladly welcome it! What could be more eye-catching than a beautiful, flowing Oscar de la Renta gown-like skirt paired with a “Love is a Verb” t-shirt from Great Happens? Or, a daring short skirt, or shorts, by Alexander McQueen paired with our “Pretty in Punk” tee? Simply irresistible, if you ask us.
Changing one word when it comes to getting through a deadline f.ex., and how you think about that deadline, can do wonders. When you bring the word play in to your day you’ll have, by default, more fun with what you’re working on and the people you work with. It adds creativity to your day and I know for a fact that creativity is the antidote to stress and bad moods.
...Do you see the clear, pure, light colored splint wood which the downed tree in this attached photo houses? That’s you! That is what all of us have inside of us, even when we feel our lowest. Purity, clarity, even innocence. We can bring it out as long as we remember that we harbor these traits within us.
With that said, starting Great Happens is the hardestthing I’ve ever done. Everyone and their mother, brother, aunt, and cousin are starting, or have started, a t-shirt company. Standing out and getting through the “noise” in order to get noticed is a daily challenge. Still, it’s worth it! The message of Great Happens is too important not to keep going. Helping others, including you AND myself, realizing that no matter how hard things may be, no matter how low we may feel, no matter how impossible the end-goal seems – we can make great happen for ourselves and for so many others.
